Apply vinyl without bubbles using the wet method! A practical and easy way to achieve perfect vinyl projects
This post will describe the entire process of applying vinyl on a glass surface using the wet method. This method can also be used on acrylic or surfaces that are water-resistant. The wet method completely eradicates the bubbles in the vinyl when gluing it on surfaces, so it is very practical.
Supplies needed
- Application solution
- Felt squeegee
- Transfer tape
- Vinyl design
First of all, it is necessary to get the application solution. There are two options, buy a professional application solution for such projects, with which it is possible to get even better results, or make the homemade version.
For the homemade version it is necessary to have:
- One spray bottle
- Water
- Dish soap
Actually creating this application solution is really simple, just get a spray bottle, fill that bottle with water, add a couple of drops of dish soap, and mix, don’t overdo it with the soap drops!
Now, put the vinyl with the design on some transfer tape, get some awesome designs HERE. if it’s paper transfer tape instead of the clear transfer tape, it will work better when doing the wet method. When the vinyl is already on the transfer tape, it’s time to spray the application solution all over the design. This will create a water barrier.
Only spray the vinyl, do not spray the glass.
Certainly this method helps with the bubbles, because when you use the squeegee to remove the water, it takes the air bubbles with it. On the other hand, will not only help with the bubbles but it will also help with the placement because it will create some room to move around the design if it is necessary.
Wet method process
Once the vinyl is sprayed, place it on the surface and put your finger on the bottom of the design to keep it from moving and to start squeezing the water out with the felt squeegee, it is best to use this kind of squeegee on delicate surfaces, as in this case.
Work from the center to the outside. That’s ok if the inside still has water in it; just keep squeezing and it will all be out. In this way it is possible to apply the vinyl without bubbles forming.
As we go squeezing the water from under the vinyl, it will adhere to the glass. Before squeezing further, remove the transfer tape carefully, and then smooth everything out again. Finally, dry it. and when it is time to turn it over you will see that you have a bubble-free application.
This method takes a few extra steps but it’s definitely worth it.
