Supplies needed

Creating the leather tag for the beanies

Open Cricut Design Space or the design software of choice. Measure on the beanie how big you want the tag to be. Make sure it is long enough to fold over and put on the beanie. The tag can be a circle, rectangle or any shape you want. After inserting the shape wanted insert a circle at each end of the shape, large enough for rivets to pass through, and click “slice”. Finally, delete the excess.

In addition, it is possible to add some extra decorations such as a phrase, a name or a silhouette. To do this add the element and size it according to the tag created earlier. If you are going to add the design on both sides of the tag, align them. Select both and click on “weld” to easily place the design on the tag later.

Remember that to use HTV it is necessary to mirror the design. It is possible to do this directly on the canvas by flipping the design horizontally or simply click on the options when sending to cut. To cut the leather it is important to change the blade on the machine and also to move the white wheels towards each end so that it does not mark the leather and interfere with the design. Use a fabric grip mat for this.

Remember that the fine point blade only works with the Cricut Explorer and Cricut Maker, but not with the Cricut Joy. Make sure the blade is clean and start cutting.

Before removing the mat from the machine make sure the leather has been well cut. Unload the mat a little to see if the blade has cut. If it does not, send it to cut again without modifying the position of the mat.

Adding HTV

To add the HTV to the tag get a heat source. The Cricut EasyPress mini works perfectly for this, because we are working with very small pieces. Remember to put parchment paper on top of the leather and the HTV. Just press the HTV and it’s done.

Now take the rivets, one of them has a long piece and the other has a short piece, to connect them together. Align the tag with the cap, fold it in half and make sure it’s tight so it doesn’t fall off under the cap. Take the rivet that has the side with the long end and insert it into the cap through the hole in the tag. Finally place the rivet with the short side on top of the other one and connect them together.

The good thing about making wit a Cricut a leather tag for beanies is that the customer can remove it, to wash the hat or change the label.
