how to use HTV vinyl scraps to create a decal

Let’s do a decal with only HTV or heat transfer vinyl scraps! here nothing will be wasted and you will see the process step by step. Take all your scraps, find a blank space where you want to put the design, and let’s start!

Supplies needed

First of all, create your design or find some cute ones HERE. Size the design and make sure the font is thick enough to get a good scraping effect. Since we are using HTV vinyl, the same rules apply, so don’t forget to mirror the design.

Now take the expression transfer tape, cut out a piece slightly larger than the design. Place the transfer tape on the mat with the sticky side up. This is because we are using scraps, so it is necessary to have something to get the design off the mat and then transfer it and press it onto the blank; Without dealing with the individual pieces to manually put them on the surface.

Working with the HTV vinyl scraps

First, to create the decal with the HTV vinyl scraps fill the transfer tape with them, cutting individual strips. Is better to use the paper cutter, because it will give you clean lines so it will be easier to line them up. Remember to put the glitter side down. As a recommendation use the same type of HTV vinyl so to use the same cutting setting.

Above all make sure not to overlap the pieces. Once all the scraps are on the transfer tape, it’s time to cut them with the Cricut machine. Choose the material for the HTV stripes, and don’t forget to mirror the design. Next, start weeding out the design without removing it from the mat. After that, remove the transfer tape from the mat and you will see that there are all the pieces ready to transfer.

We’re not going to press the transfer tape, we just use it to put our HTV on the blank all at once, so to line up everything perfectly. Just place the vinyl on the blank, and peel off the transfer tape. Finally press the design without forgetting to put butcher paper on top, to protect the press. Peel off the backing sheet of the HTV vinyl and you’re done!
